Work on paper from ‘One_To_Zero’, exhibition at Conduit Arts, Fitzroy 2012.

Music, for me, has always been a highly visual experience. I hear music as sculpture—shaped by form, correlations, movement, and space. Creating visual artworks has long accompanied my musical journey, offering another dimension to how I explore and express sound. After studying visual arts at Monash and Ballarat Universities, I have continued to weave visual practice into my musical life through designing CD covers, websites, posters, and music teaching resources.

Between 2011 and 2018, I focused on the history of the pianola, creating a body of work and a series of exhibitions inspired by the visual patterns encoded in player piano rolls—an early form of music automation and notation. While visual art continues to play ‘second fiddle’ to my musical practice, it remains a vital and enriching part of how I engage creatively with the world.
